Bruin Country Principal's Update (CAASPP & CAST Tests)
Posted 4/12/19

Hello Bruin Community,

We are heading into April Break, and I hope all our families have safe, enjoyable, and fun-filled time off.  Whether you are able to vacation or are staying home, I hope we can all come back rejuvenated and ready for the last seven weeks of school.

As a reminder, upon our return, we go directly into five days of testing that require an alternate bell schedule.  From Monday, April 22, through Friday, April 26, the bell schedule will be as follows:

  • Testing: 7:30-9:30
  • 1st Period 9:45-10:20
  • 2nd Period 10:26-11:01
  • 3rd Period 11:07-11:42
  • Lunch: 11:42-12:17
  • 4th Period 12:23-12:58
  • 5th Period 1:04-1:39
  • 6th Period 1:45-2:20
  • 7th Period 2:26-3:01

On Monday through Thursday, all Juniors are tasking the CAASPP Tests, which are the state's primary assessment of English and Math.  These tests are very important both for the school and for the students.  One way in which it affects students is it determines whether or not students qualify for regular English and Math classes in the UC and CSU universities around our state.  Juniors have information in their schoolloop portal about which classroom to attend.  All juniors need to be in their testing room by 7:30 am.  All other students can come later for their regular classes, with 1st period starting at 9:45 and 2nd period starting at 10:26.

On Friday, all Seniors as well as any Junior or Sophomore who has not signed up for science for next year are tasking the CAST Test, which are the state's primary assessment of Science.  Like the CAASPP test, this test is important both for the school as a whole and for the individual students.  These testers will soon have information in their schoolloop portal about which classroom to attend on Friday.  All seniors as well as any junior or sophomore who has not signed up for science for next year need to be in their testing room by 7:30 am.  All other students (freshmen and any sophomore or junior who did sign up to continue to take science) can come later for their regular classes, with 1st period starting at 9:45 and 2nd period starting at 10:26.

Students and parents, be on the lookout for any communication coming from Vice Principal Terry Flora, who is taking the lead for our school on CAASPP and CAST testing.

Sincerely,

Gregory Shelby

Principal, SCHS
